See How Adjustable Bed Brands Stack Up

Aside from memory foam mattresses, the adjustable bed is proving one of the hottest luxury items in bedroom furnishings. With so many companies competing with each other, trying to create what they perceive as the best bed, it’s often left to the consumer to do all the research in order to designate which one is really the best bed for them. But in order to first make that designation, you need to stack up all the brands and see how they compete against each other. In this guide, we will look at seven top brands and compare them across five of the most important dimensions to help provide shoppers with a simple introductory guide to adjustable bases.

Comparison of Adjustable Bed Brands

In developing our comparison, we started with a list of the most popular adjustable beds on the market. Here is a brief overview of each brand we will look at.

  • Amerisleep is an online retailer specializing in plant-based memory foam mattresses. They offer four adjustable beds, three from their own collection and the Leggett and Platt Prodigy.
  • Costco is a national membership warehouse club offering a few different brands of adjustable beds online including Leggett and Platt, Sleep Science, and Nature’s Caress.
  • Craftmatic is one of the older adjustable retailers who sells their own line of bases and mattresses. They used to rely on an in-home sales model but now sell over the phone.
  • Golden Rest is an online retailer that offers about eight models of adjustable bases with mattresses.
  • Sleep Comfort sells adjustable bases over the phone and features three branded models and the Prodigy from Leggett and Platt.
  • Tempur-pedic is known for memory foam, and also offers two models of adjustable bases under the Ergo name sold online and through some retailers.
  • Select Comfort‘s Sleep Number line includes two models of adjustable bases under the FlexFit line sold online and in their stores.

Longevity/Durability

We start first with the durability, or longevity of the adjustable beds offered. This refers to the quality of construction, certification of the electrical components, and the materials used in the products, all of which set the tone for how long the adjustable bed will last. The durability of an adjustable bed is something that should really be researched before making a decision on the purchase. The reason being is because adjustable beds are an expensive purchase and one that most people expect to last for many years.

Under statistical analysis, the brands ranked up rather different from each other. When it comes to the durability of an adjustable bed, Costco only scored a one star. This is indicative of possibly being able to purchase an adjustable bed for less, but consumers complained about issues with electrical components and poor after-purchase service in reviews online. Golden rest and Craftmatic scored with three stars when it came to durability and longevity, not the best, butnot the worst either. This signifies some complaints and issues with longevity. Amerisleep, Sleep Comfort, Select Comfort, and Tempurpedic all had good product certifications and virtually no complaints on early breakdowns or poor after-sale service, with all receiving four stars.

  • Amerisleep – 4/5
  • Costco – 1/5
  • Craftmatic – 3/5
  • Golden Rest – 3/5
  • Sleep Comfort – 4/5
  • Tempur-pedic -4/5
  • Sleep Number – 4/5

Consumer Ratings

Looking into consumer ratings themselves is another way decide whether or not a bed actually does stand up to the manufacturer’s claims. Verified reviews from real owners are the best source, though third party review sites, manufacturer sites, and independent blogs and forums also offer owner insight.  But you also have to take into consideration what they are rating. Not every topic is going to be good for everyone, for example if a customer rates a set as a 10 because it is as plush as they wanted it to be, this does not mean that it is the best one for you. However, ratings on topics like durability and longevity are more universal and helpful in picking out the higher quality options. We looked at multiple review sources and assigned a rating based on review averages, severity of complaints, and consistency of complaints.

  • Amerisleep – 4.5/5
  • Costco – 4/5
  • Craftmatic – 2/5
  • Golden Rest – 3/5
  • Sleep Comfort – 4/5
  • Tempur-pedic – 4/5
  • Sleep Number – /5

Price

Price is of course a primary concern of most buyers. But on the same hand, you want to pay a price representative of what you are actually getting in terms of features and longevity. We ranked beds on price based on information available as to how expensive the adjustable beds were, and whether or not the manufacturer made the price available to consumers. Published prices are a distinct advantage to consumers as they prevent sales people from taking advantage of buyers, especially those not keen on haggling. Craftmatic and Sleep Comfort both hide prices, which is why they rank lowest here. Tempurpedic and Sleep Number charge higher prices than other retailers for similar beds, and Costco and Golden Rest models tend to have prices slightly higher relative to their features. Amerisleep ranked highest in this category for offering some of the best price/feature comparisons and disclosing all costs up front.

  • Amerisleep – 4/5
  • Costco – 3/5
  • Craftmatic – 1/5
  • Golden Rest – 3/5
  • Sleep Comfort – 1/5
  • Tempur-pedic – 2/5
  • Sleep Number – 2/5

Health Benefits

When it comes to adjustable bases, consumers usually report at least one health benefit to their purchase, whether or not they reported issues with service or durability. According to the stats we collected the brand with the highest health benefit rating in terms of features like zero gravity and consumer mentions was Amerisleep with five stars. Following close behind were Sleep Number, Costco, Craftmatic and Tempur-pedic with four stars. Golden Rest received three stars which still at average range.

  • Amerisleep – 5/5
  • Costco – 4/5
  • Craftmatic – 4/5
  • Golden Rest – 3/5
  • Sleep Comfort – 4/5
  • Tempur-pedic – 4/5
  • Sleep Number – 4/5

Warranty

Warranty is another important feature to consider when comparing adjustable beds. While most come with 20 years or even lifetime warranties, the actual period of full coverage is much shorter. After 1-5 years, typically only parts are covered at prorated costs, something which many owners are surprised to learn. When looking at warranties, we considered two factors: the length of full coverage and the transparency and availability of the retailer’s warranty policy. Amerisleep and Sleep Comfort offered the clearest and longest periods of full coverage which is why they ranked highest. The others offer between 1-2 years of full coverage but have policies that are hard to find, ambiguous and/or reports of consumers reporting deception.

  • Amerisleep – 5/5
  • Costco – 3/5
  • Craftmatic – 3/5
  • Golden Rest – 3/5
  • Sleep Comfort – 5/5
  • Tempur-pedic – 3/5
  • Sleep Number – 3/5
